Antigua, Guatemala at a glance

Flying into Guatemala was nothing short of amazing, as we could see smoldering volcanoes as we came in for a landing. A quick shuttle from Guatemala city had us in Antigua in less than an hour. We decided to try a "home stay" for our time in Antigua. We are staying in a large family home with about 8 other people, mostly students who have come here to learn Spanish. One of our favorite parts about our accomadations is the 3 home cooked meals a day that are included.

So far, Antigua reminds us a little bit of San Miguel de Allende but without the steep hills. Antigua is a bit more Americanized than we were expecting. You can easily grab a burger from McDonalds, Wendy's or Burger King. Today we passed a GNC and a North Face shop....kind of a bummer actually.

Tomorrow we plan to hike up for a view of the city before heading off to a nearby pueblo on a chicken bus.

The new Mayor of Antigua was being inaugurated today....with a few funky guests.
